UPDATE HISTORY REFLECTS FAILED SECURITY UPDATE KB-896-428
Posted by CHARLIEBUCK on February 14th, 2006

Update history from the update page reflects a failed attempt of security
update KB-896-428 eventhough it shows installed on my add/repove programs
list - under all of the ms security patches and updates - also downloaded it
as an indivual download - rebooted - rechecked the update history - still
reflects there as failed -

Version is Windows XP Professional -

MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP PROFESIONAL – VER 5.1 –BUILD
2600.XPSP_SP2_GDR.050301-1519 : SERVICE PACK 2

Wow do you get the ms update site to reflect download history correctly - no
problems with all of the other downloads

Thanks much for any help !

While it shows as being failed to download through the Windows Update
Service, it should not offer it for download when it scans your systems
for needed updates.

Because the person who wrote the message you're replying to used that as his
return address.

Many, if not most, newsgroup particpants don't use their real return
address, because these are often gathered by spambots . Note that I do
something very similar, using kblake@this.is.an.invalid.domain as my return
address.
