a backup recovery disk during the full backup process. I am using a Dell
Inspiron laptop with only a DVR ROM drive and don't have a floppy driv at

Not that I am aware of.
You might be able to use a USB memory stick instead of the diskette
drive.
Good luck

you cannot use a cd..
and of course it would be INSANE to try to use floppies...
MS backup is a very limited utility...
either get a real backup program
or merely just backup all your important data...
as the OS itself can always be reloaded

Since you have no form of writable media then I would highly discourage you
from getting a floppy drive, unless you are the kind of person who likes
chopping down 100 year old oak trees with a butter knife.
There are many option is the way of cheap USB flash drives. 1gb drives go
for around 40 bucks.
You can also look at getting a CDR or DVDR for your laptop.
I personally am a fan of having an external USB DVD-R around because they
are just so darn adaptable.
And then there are all kinds of devices devoted to laptop users
specifically, like the PC card bus backup cards.
I guess I am saying you have lots of options, and none of them are free.
