- Volume control icon not showing in system tray
- Posted by kdiddle on November 14th, 2005
Just recently the volume control icon does not appear in the system tray. I
have gone to display and made sure the "show icon in system tray" box is
checked, then rebooted and still no icon. Any ideas?? I am running Windows XP
SP2.

Did you use an automated registry cleaning application of one type or
another?

And I forgot the fix... (Be sure to thank Kelly when you see her, assuming
it works.)

Line 320 on the right will restore both the network and sound volume icon to
the system tray.

You're welcome and Kelly's busy as of late with a few more important
things - or so it seems and justifiably so. You didn't answer the question -
had you been using a registry cleaner before this happened? If so then
which? This USUALLY shows up after cleaning the registry with one of the
various tools. Over the past six or seven months I've been paying attention
to it more and more in hopes of finding the reason that registry cleaners
would be eating the key.
