- Want to set up four users on 1 PC running same programs doing same work
- Posted by Leon Willard on October 17th, 2005
How can I set up a PC workstation for four different users running the same
CAD programs? These users are domain members connected to the same server,
and often work on the same projects.
My problem is that WinXP treats each new user login as a totally new user
running totally new programs - We run CAD programs, as well as other
programs, that require fairly complex setups and customized settings for
printers and plotters. We are trying to avoid having to set up each new
user's CAD and other programs from scratch.
We tried to use the 'copy and paste' method to duplicate a properly set up
user's Desktop found under User's and Settings, but that doesn't work very
well. All the desktop icons and layout get duplicated OK, but some programs
don't run properly or are missing the customized setting. -- Any help will
be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

If the program is WinXP aware, set it up from an Administrator user.

The program we are having the most difficulty is not WinXP aware, but even
if it were, how would setting it up from an Administrator user help?

If it were, it would ask you whether or not to make it available to all
users during installation.
