Is the Web Based Newsgroup Site Down?
Posted by MacKenrick on September 29th, 2005

I've been trying to get on the On-Line Windows XP Newsgroup at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ewsgroups.mspx but it hasn't
been working for several days. It just redirects me to another site:
http://www.microsoft.com/library/err...ps/reader.mspx
Is it just my computer or is the site down for some reason?

I know many people say using Outlook to access the newsgroup is better but I
find it more convenient to use the Web Based one.

Thanks for the info. Mike

It would appear there is a problem on that site. I'll mail the site manager
and let them know. In the mean time, you may wish to use
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.aspx.

Would you like to enlighten us as to WHY you find the awful clunky web
access more "convenient" than a news reader?

Posted by MacKenrick on September 29th, 2005

First... a big "Thank You" to John Eddy for letting me know that it was a
site problem and not just my computer and also for notifying the web folks.

Next for Gordon... When I first started using this newsgroup, I was using it
with OE. I had posts that were never posted or lost, I couldn't hardly ever
find my posts or do searches for posts, etc. and was told by several
"experts" that using the Web Access was more reliable. This was a number of
years ago. I started using the Web Access and liked it. It was easy for me
to find my posts (therefore answers to my questions) and easy to do
"searches" (which was difficult to do using OE).

Things have probably changed over the last few years because recently I have
had several people tell me that using a news reader is better. I guess I
just haven't gotten around to learning how to use it properly. Is there a
simple tutorial around anywhere that explains how to use the OE news reader?
If it really is better, I'd like to start using it again.

Lastly... for all you folks out there that help people like us with our
questions (and I know some of the questions can get pretty strange and off
the point) THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! You folks are great.

I wish there were some way of repaying your kindness. I'd give you my first
born male child except you probably wouldn't want him. LOL Mike

Thank you for the offer of your child, but I already have a first-born
male child (and a second-born one) and since I just spent a ridiculous
amount amount of money upgrading their video cards, I don't need any
more children. ;-)

Let them know that it has been bouncing up and down like a yo-yo for the
past couple weeks. Sometimes you can get it to come up and then get "page not
found" when trying to post a new question/comment/reply. Sometimes you just
get "sorry, service temporarily not available" when you try to go to the main
newsgroup page.

Your feedback to Gordon, seems reversed. But glad it works for you and good
luck.

As for your first born, if he plays Halo2, he would get along just fine with
my bunch. )
