What does "unable to activate windows" mean exactly? What happens when
you try? If you have a pirated version of XP, then you must replace it
with a legal version. There is no way around this. If you are having
other issues with your legal version, call the phone number provided
during the activation process.

If the OP had a properly pirated version, there would be no problem as
pirated versions come already activated.

Why should someone have to do that? One buys the software and then one
has to prove to MS -- twice -- that one bought it. Meanwhile, the
crackers just laugh. I put WPA and WGA in the same category as Sony's
latest rootkit fiasco.

With a legal version there is no charge to activate Windows, even if you
have to place a call. If you have a computer from an O.E.M. you now have to
call to activate. It can no longer be done over the internet.

What happens when you try? What specific error messages do you get?
What do your system event logs report? What specific troubleshooting
steps have you already taken, and what were the results of each?

No one can help if you don't provide at least a modicum of information.

I assume you mean an OEM version from someone like Dell or HP, not a
generic OEM, right?

I discovered that the generic OEM versions now have to also call be phone. I
just completed 4 generic OEM installs and the Internet activations were blocked.

We are speaking of reinstalls. If you had been following the "whole" thread
you would have seen this.

How nice. Were they reinstalls or first installs?

You DO NOT HAVE TO BUY a new key. Just make the phone call.
