- Why can't I get native XP CD burning?
- Posted by Mac on October 12th, 2005
Have an external Freecom Classic DVD rewriter hooked up via USB 2.0.

I can burn CD's via bundled Roxio Easy Creator - but it crashes after each
burn and I need to reboot, and I can't get access to native XP CD burning
with this hardware.
Not 100% sure if the USB cable is the one supplied - could it be the
problem?

Open my computer and right click on the burners drive letter and select
properties, then click on the recording tab be sure that the box "enable cd
recording on this drive is checked". Many third party burning programs such
as Roxio may uncheck this box when they are installed. You will still be able
to use Roxio as well.I have no problem using XP's burning program and Nero
with this box checked.

XP doesn't recognise the device - so there is no recording tab. Question is
Why?

I had a similar problem with a drive not being seen anymore. Turns
out that it was a problem with Roxio, not the drive. I had to go
into the registry and remove some Roxio corruption. Then switched to
Nero and have been fine ever since. Check out google, that's where I
found help.
