Why a duplicate printer driver install?
Posted by dexx on October 19th, 2005

I run Windows XP SP2 and a Canon iP3000 printer. Ive noticed the
following behaviour with other printers as well.

In windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86 there are two subdirectories;
'3' and 'canonip300082f7'. These directories appear to hold exactly the
same 15mb of content. Does anyone know why there are two?

Hi,

No, I don't know, but I can tell you that this behavior does not occur on
any of the systems I maintain. Mostly using HP printers, some installed
locally, some networked.
