- Why no Strategic Commander support in XP
- Posted by NunYa Bidness on November 7th, 2005
Why does MS not support their own product?
The box says Windows 98, Windows 2000 or above. Here I am, above
that, and you guys curtail support. Are you going to buy my now
useless product back?
Also, IF they claim to no longer support it, why not release the
details of accessing the device, such that the user base of such
hardware can work on it?
Can you guys really be *that* obtuse? How friggin' hard can it be?
Strategic Commander and other HID devices... supported? OR NOT?
Jeez, DOSBox even makes a better DOS window than you guys do...
Oh... that's right... you DON'T!
If only our country would do to you guys what Roosevelt did to
Boeing and several other companies in the WWII days.
Maybe you'd wise up... a bit. Right now, your board of directors
doesn't have your consumer base in their thoughts... at all. All the
way up to the top dog. You'd have a hard time proving to me that you
do. Go ahead... make me a liar... if you have any guilt in you at
all, you will.

A "little" more info would help!
Have you "tried" using the install CD???
Is it plugged into a USB port????

Don't know. However, I do know that this newsgroup is not a way to send
messages to MS. If any employee of MS reads, they do so on their own time
from their own computers.
So, all of you comments to "you guys" are fruitless.

This forum is not an official Microsoft support entity
manned by Microsoft employees. It is a peer-to-peer
network of Microsoft users (many with advanced
knowledge of MS internals, hardware, applications,
and problem solving skills. Many of these people
are identified by "MVP" behind their screen names.)
We diligently try to share information and to help
one another.
If you purchased Strategic Commander directly from
Microsoft, and if you haven't had it more than 30
days, there is a distinct possibility that Microsoft will
indeed buy your product back from you. You'd need to
contact Microsoft sales for detailed information. If
you purchased Strategic Commander from another
source, all bets are off. You could plead with the store's
manager that your box's specs data misled you into
buying it. No harm in trying.
We suspect that supporting Strategic Commander is
way down Microsoft's strategic objectives list.

All info that is needed was given, idiot.
Strategic commander (there is only ONE).
Windows XP (why there are several can only be about money, not
providing the customer with a good, stable, singular product).
Not supported.
If you need more info than that, you shouldn't be working for them.

You're an idiot. A top posting, know nothing, Usenet twit.

Dude. I bought it years ago. It is MS that has dropped the ball, as
they so often do. My remark about them buying it back has to do with
a product that works fine on my W2k system, but will not work on XP.
It's really that simple. There is NO reason AT ALL for them not to
provide updated drivers for the thing. It just goes to show the
customer what really matters to your board members. It ain't the
customer... it's his wallet contents. They're all a bunch of bat's
turds in my view. Their "turn the other way and ignore" attitude
SHOULD cost them their jobs, and the company their profits!
WE built the firm.

See what I mean? Sheesh. The least they could do is release the
source code for the original release, so that we can use it and not
have a dead hunk of hardware lying around that MS had no problems
extracting the cash from my wallet for.

OK. I ain't no dummy. That isn't the error I got. I got a 16 bit
app error, and XP 64 bit edition will not run it. If it were a simple
game or other stand alone app, I could run it in DOSBox, but it is
made to run in front of a game or other application.
If you can confirm that it will work in the 64 bit edition of XP, I
will do the work of trying it. Otherwise, my remarks stand.
BTW, top posting is a bad thing. Retarded even. If you do not know

Bummer, you REALLY need to read the documentation before you install.

Dude, I feel your pain about being unable to make Strategic
Commander work properly on your win XP system. That's
too bad. Have you googled "Strategic Commander driver"
and have you checked out www.drivers.com to determine if
an updated driver is available? This is doubtful but it can't hurt
to check. Suggest you also access Microsoft's web site and
search for "Strategic Commander driver", too. There are some
hits. They may not apply to you but...
Another thing. Your comment about "your board members"
indicates that you still don't seem to get it that the participants
in this forum are not MS employees. We're simply using MS
servers. I have no connection whatsoever with MS except that
I use its products and own some of its stock. Good luck.

You have made great attempts to insult everyone that has tried to help and
most of those who have not.
If you really want support, you would probably be more successful in a
different forum.
But first, be sure to lurk for a long enough time to see how the forum
works.
Also read any guidelines the forum may have to avoid the large pitfalls you
fell into here that will prevent you from getting the support you desire.
Top posting is OK here, there is no "basic protocols" against it here.
Your choice either way, but your comments on it probably alienated a few
possible answers to your questions.

Rules? It IS Usenet. If you want to separate yourself from Usenet
and its posting protocols, then do NOT carry these lame groups IN
Usenet. It is that simple. If you DO carry them in Usenet, then you
should be following Usenet protocols, not making up your own.
The ONLY reason that top posting is OK in your lame view of the
world (MS) is due to the fact that you all created a screwed up news
client with your Outhouse Un-Expressive, and its default posting
methodology following that of basic e-mail. How quaint.
This ain't e-mail, and MS' attempt at creating a viable email
client, and failing proves further how little they aspire to actually
cater to customer needs.
The idiot that asked me if I think they should support that piece of
hardware into perpetuity was a retard! It is a USB device, and as
long as USB IS the standard, the devices they make and sell should be
supported. Dig?
Their little "do it yourself" fix is yet another proof at their
lameness. They are so unsupportive that they can pay some idiot to
construct a web page that describes how to fix manually THEIR problem,
when what they should have done is re-issue the software in a working
form.
Your views on this couldn't be more lame. Yes, they SHOULD be still
supporting it. It is only a couple years old piece of hardware, and
they are not selling newer devices that would eclipse its presence.
So, yeah! They should still be supporting it, and it should have
newer, properly functioning software written for it. If not, the
sources should be released, and it is that friggin' simple!
Otherwise, I want my $50 back for the total, now non-functioning
POS.
How can any of you be that friggin' obtuse?!

If the statement made on that page is correct, then WHY is there no

they list it anywhere that I could find.

I noticed that page did not say that they CHARGE you for said
support.
They don't need me to talk with them, they NEED to make a cite that
carries the items needed that does support the product, not make it
some run around sue BS that is near impossible to locate.
I notice that *THAT* link did not get posted. Hmmm... I wonder why.
Thanks for the help, but I already knew how to contact them directly,
I am just not willing to pay for something that they should be
providing as a part of the base product. You know... they way things

lines that started the method.
