Windows check boxes and arrows distored
Posted by Linda on December 14th, 2005

Any check boxes, in all applications, are distorted and are full of symbols.
If you do
a right click for properties, where there should be a arrow, the is a small
mouse symbol. also the dot that should be specifing what is checked and
active is a horoscope symbol for cancer the crab.

what's going on? Is my computer posessed? Is it trying to contact the
Phsycic Hotline?
Your help is appreciated.

Hi,

Sounds like a corrupted font file. Click start/run, type "sfc /scannow"
(without the quotes) and click ok. Allow the system file checker to validate
the system file set, you may be prompted to insert your WinXP CD so have it
handy.

I don't know what "this program" means since I can't see your computer
from here. However, your machine and/or video card may be overheating.
Open the computer and clean out all dust bunnies (while the machine is
off!). With the case open, start the machine and run it open, observing
all fans, including the one on the video card if there. Obviously you
can't do this with a laptop, but you can hear if the fan is running and
feel if the laptop is getting too hot.

If you would be uncomfortable working with your computer this way, take
it to a professional repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA).

Like Rick said, most likely you have a corrupted
font.
I don't think that SFC checks for font files though, only
system files.
Did you install an old software that is made for Win 3.1
or MAC ? or clicked OK to install a font on a website ?
Check your computer with antivirus and antispyware.
Read this article at MS, should have the solution if
Font is the problem.
