- Windows Explorer & My Computer freeze up
- Posted by Paul on May 16th, 2008
Hi
One of microserfs recent updates has caused windows explorer and my computer
to freeze after anything between 2 and 10 minutes of being opened. I am
unable to do anything other than use task manager to crash out of it.
Everything else open is fine.
I have a dell dimension 5000 with 2mb ram, 160gb HDD, windows XP service
pack 2, zonealarm firewall and anti-virus
It is driving me crackers - can anyone help?
thanks in advance
Paul

[Crosspost to Windows Update newsgroup]
And how have you determined that a "recent update" has caused this behavior?
What "recent updates" have you installed? Does uninstalling one or more of
them via Add/Remove Programs resolve the problem?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

I haven't "determined" but IIRC it started after an update. As it is a
variable length of time it freezes, it did not become apparent for a
while - the first time this sort of thing happens one tends to ignore it
as "one of those things"
I install windows updates as they arrive
As stated in the original email Zonealarm firewall and antivirus. I run
adaware 2007 on a regular basis

Need a better answer than that, I'm afraid. Check your Update History at
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and let me know, please.
Are you running Ad-Aware 2007 Pro or the free version?
