Windows XP Home Edition "Enhanced" version...
Posted by Melissa D on December 16th, 2005

Does anyone know if there is really such a thing? I only use Pro here in our
environment (working on a domain in a corporate setting) and a hardware
vendor is trying to tell my salesman (who needs a notebook PC) that it will
do 'everything he needs it to do'. I already printed out the comparison sheet
and know XP Pro is what he needs, but they claim this "enhanced" version will
work the same. (I know, sounds like a line of u-know-what, but I had to ask!)

Melissa;
Ask the vendor what is the source for Enhanced Windows XP Home?
Also ask how it was enhanced?
These should be easy answers for a legitimate vendor.

It's "u-know-what." There's no such thing.

Ask the salesman if he will give you a written "double your money back"
guarantee in the case the system won't join a domain. Once you have that
in hand, you will be able to use HIS money to purchase the system you need.

Now there's an idea! I'll tell my salesman that. I hate it when these guys
think they HAVE A CLUE as to what they are doing. They SELL, I PURCHASE. I
know what works with the network, they just know what is cheapest...

My guess is that it is just "Enhanced" as in it already has SP2. (Big, fat,
hairy deal...if I may quote Garfield...I can get it too. For free.)

XP Home -- can not join a domain

XP Pro -- can join a domain

XP Media Center Edition -- Can not join a domain (although people state that
during initial set up, you can join a domain????)

'Enhanced" Home edition -- does not truly exist -- Seems to good to be true!

There isn't.

That's rather worrisome. You'd think that a salesman would know better
than to trust another salesman's claims, particularly in regards to
technical issues.
