would any of you experts out there know how to stop the windows media from
downloading the tv guide everytime the computer is turned on for the first
time everyday. thanks in advance.

If you're actually referring to Windows MediaCenter, then ask on the
MediaCenter newsgroups. They may want to know which version you're
running etc.
