- Windows XP SP3 CD
- Posted by Richard on April 30th, 2008
I just downloaded the SP3 CD. I noted that on the first menu page it has a
link "What to know before installting Service Pack 3". This opens an IE
window to local CD file FAQ.HTM which is for SP2.

We know and MS knows. Until it's fixed (which would require a fresh
download), see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w...c164204.aspx#2
PS: You may have downloaded SP3 and burned it to CD but you didn't download
the CD.

I dunno, I once ordered a pizza by fax. It did come back a little flat,
though.

Why not?
I did. Others have. The OP may have as well.
I downloaded the ISO from the MSDN subscribers 'Top Downloads' area a week
or so ago... Not just the SP3 executable.

OH! You've said it wrong as well!
(See my other response right before this one.)
What you should have said is, "You may have downloaded the SP3 CD ISO image
and then wrote that CD ISO image to an actual CD, but you did not download
the physical CD..."

Humming and Arring does'nt help the situation.
This SP3 pack has been available as the final on many web sites
since the 24/4, I personally have downloaded from 3 sites Majorgeeks,
Eldergeeks, Windows networking.com. checking out versions. however I gather
it has something to with Microsofts personal future financial security
regarding Vista.
Well today I've slipstreamed SP3 with XP Pro DELL version & XP Pro version
not for Retail or OEM distribution, want to ask me another, I still have one
to go , for Toshiba laptop which I think will be more tricky.
Creating the new versions took me a little time , I last did this back in
2004. I had read on the web suggesting various apps to assist .
Basically I copied the disk to a new folder called Xp, created 2 more
folders preparation sp3 & XP imageboot , using nlite to select the files
from folders
to nlite XP and SP3 it sprung to life, after intergrating ,option to add
further files I added IE7 plus Dell drivers, nVidia drivers ,soundmax,
network drivers
just manged to get it on CD 707mbs. Copied a lot over network to other
desktop, doctored a few files, & added IE7 ,plus ASUS drivers , I had to use
DVD
984mbs. Goodnight all. now 00.20

Before others in this newsgroup have at you, you mean you downloaded SP3 and
THEN burned it to a CD?

Flat out, it is once again sloppy work by Microsoft. I have no idea where
their quality control has gone with them. I am not a MS basher, I support
their technology for a living and prefer it over anything else but this
sloppy work has got to stop. I think it might have something to do with them
outsourcing everything to India. When was the last time you spoke to
Microsoft support and spoke to someone who spoke in English....
