Wireless Intellimouse Explorer - can't get scroll wheel just to bea middle mouse button!
Posted by Alex Hunsley on November 22nd, 2005

I have a microsoft mouse. Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 to be exact.
Using it with XP SP2 and with the Intellimouse driver installed.

The problem is that I'm using a program (xFig) where you need to be able
to press the middle mouse button. The scroll wheel on the Intellimouse
is also effectively a middle button you can click, but at the moment the
click is set up to do "Next window" in the intellimouse software. The
intellimouse software also lets you chagne what action the buttons have.
Fine, except that there is no "middle button click" action! There is
only left click and right click. How can I get round this and just have
a plain old middle mouse button?

thanks
alex

Hi Alex

Hmm, there is a "middle-click" option in my Intellipoint software,
version 5.20, and I'm using it. Or is this not what you mean?

Sorry, crossed wires here, win doesn't really have a notion of middle
mouse button anyway, does it?

Open START|PROGRAMS|MOUSE and look for the "wheel button" item.
If it's not there, then the Intellipoint software may not be configured for
Explorer 2.0. Make that choice.

Yes, of course it does. However, it is dependent on the mouse software
to provide more than a few options. Look in the Mouse applet in Control
Panel.

What function are you looking for?
DblClk,open,Enter? All there under Wheel Button in CP>Mouse, unless corrupted.
Test a few in the xFig program. Surely it's one of them.

I don't get it. . . Intellimouse 5.20 does offer middle-click, I'm using
it myself. Unless Alex is after something different?

The software that came with my hardware is version 5.0. Where does one get
version 5.20?

Got it, thanks!

Version 5.0 did not have the Middleclick option. Must have been an oversight
by M$.

"middle-click" and "auto-scroll" are equivalent (to most applications).

Thanks! I needed to know that myself.
Also, found out I had reinstalled 5.0 instead of 5.2!
