- XP Firewall / Norton Firewall Question
- Posted by toshradio@hotmail.com on October 28th, 2005
Hello,
My ISP wants to briefly put me on a public IP due to some connection
issues. They warned me that this will put me outside of their firewall.
Question - if I am running the complete Norton Internet Security (it
has a Firewall), do I need to turn on Windows Firewall? I've heard
reports that Norton turns off Windows Firewall on reboot every time.
I also run Ad-Aware, Spybot and Microsoft Antispyware for extra
protection.
Thanks,
Dave

You should only run one firewall.

Hi Dave,
If you have Norton's firewall running, there is no need for the Windows
firewall, and in fact it should be disabled to prevent conflicts (this is
done by design).

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I figured as much, but only wanted to make sure.
Have a good day,
Dave

No, only one firewall program is needed.

The above are NOT firewalls, but malware detectors.

Yep, not sure why I tossed those on my list.
