can I use a valid xp home key on a xp pro installation with a suspect key ?

Hi,

No, because it wouldn't work anyways - they are not interchangeable. Not to
mention that if the Home key is already in use on another system it would
not be available to use to correct the Pro system. What you would need is a
regular retail version of WinXP Pro and do a repair installation with the
valid product key.
