- XP Shutdown Hangs Before Options Shown
- Posted by Ronan on October 18th, 2005
Hello,
When I click Start>Turn Off Computer, the hourglass appears, and it
can take up to 5 minutes before the shutdown options
(Standby/Shutdown/Restart) appear on the screen. Then, if Shutdown is
selected, it can be anything up to another ten minutes before the
computer actually shuts down.
This has only been a problem since i re-installed Windows XP with
streamlined SP2 CD.
Oddly enough, this does not always happen... it seems to be the
longer the PC is on, the more likely this problem is to appear. (And by
longer, I still only mean a couple of hours)
I have tried to find a link between the applications used and the
shutdown problem, but so far have not noticed any common link.
Also, while the hourglass is onscreen, if I use Ctrl-Alt-Delete and
select Shutdown from the Task Manager, it seems to shutdown a lot
quicker.
If anyone can help with this, I would very much appreciate it.
Cheers,
Ronan.
