- XP startup problem
- Posted by GaleM on February 10th, 2006
For some reason, my son's computer suddenly began asking for his name and
password at startup. He's never used a password before, and doesn't have one.
It will not let him get to the desktop anymore. He can't get past the
password screen. Has this happened to anyone before and if so, how can we fix
it?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
By default if you do not have the windows login password, the only way is to
have the administrator password that you created during the first time setup
of windows xp. IF you really do not have that, try searching on the
following website. Hope that helps:

Did he recently install/update the .NET framework? I recently did and
afterwards WinXP began asking for a logon name and password. I resolved it
(I think) by bypassing the logon screen with TweakUI.

Andy,
Thank you for your answer. I actually figured it out myself late last night.
I just hit "enter" and it brought up the desktop right away.

Steve,
You know what, I tried that and it worked! It was just weird that this
happened after having the system several years and not seeing it before.
Thank you so much for your answer.

Opinicus,
I don't think he downloaded the .NET Framework. I was finally able to
bypass the password prompt just by hitting "enter."
Thank you for the information and your time!
