- active sync- exchange server and lapton
- Posted by Maarten on August 30th, 2004
Dear all,
We are a small consulting company with 6 consultants, we would like to have
an exchange server in order to be able to share contacts, mails, tasks etc.
This is relatively easy to set-up (especially the hosted version). However
we will shortly also buy 6 smartphones (windows powered), can we have our
e-mails/tasks/contacts etc continuously on these phones by means of GPRS and
how. The other question is, if we synchronize our smartphone with our laptop
(which synchronizes itself with the exchange server) will our mailfiles not
get corrupted or damaged?
Thanks for your help,
Maarten

Maarten,
You can refer to the document to have Exchange 2003 synchronization setup
with mobile devices:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Only Inbox, Contacts and Calendar will synchronize with the server. The
desktop synchronization allows you all the three along with Tasks, Notes and
Files. You can have a combination of the two as well. That is the Inbox
can be synchronized via the server and the rest of the items via the
desktop. But it is not possible to synchronize the same information type
via the desktop as well from the server.

Raj,
Thanks for your answer. Can you please help me a little further, does your
answer mean that I cannot get my e-mail/contacts/calendar on smartphone
ANDlaptop, or can I only synchronise both of them with the server only?
I assume that my e-mails are kept stored on the exhcange server. The
exchange server is the basis of all information. Is this correct?
Why are tasks, files and notes not synchronisable with the smartphone?
Sorry if I am asking superfluous questions, but it is all quite confusing to
me.
Thanks,
Maarten

Hi,
Tasks are not supported for synchronization with Exchange. As for files,
they are not supported either from Exchange. These are both by design.
