- Active Sync picking up proxy settings
- Posted by PolyMorphVZ on August 8th, 2007
I have a Palm using Windows mobile OS and active Sync 4.5 on a OC at work.
The PDA connects to the wireless system at work and works just fine when not
set to use a proxy server. The problem comes in when the PDA is synced to its
host computer, it picks up the computers proxy settings and it kills the PDA
ability to use the internet unless the proxy settings arem anually turned
off. Have tried to manually remove the proxy settings from the host computer
but because of group policy they are turned back on at every restart/login.
Is there a way to stop active sync from sycning this setting? I tried to look
for a setting myself but the only thing I could find for sync settings were
on outlook related items.

Sorry but the PDA is an Ipaq not a Palm, my mistake.

Hi,
Try disabling the network passthrough for ActiveSync 4.5 in the File -
Connection Settings.

Chris,
I tried to look for the setting but it doesnt seem to be there or anywhere.
It is indeed activesync 4.5. The connection settings window only shows check
boxes for "Show status icon in taskbar" "Allow USB connections" "Allow
connections to one of the following" and "Open ActiveSync when my device
connects" there is also a drop down list titled "This computer is connected
to:"
Just to clarrify the problem, the PDA keeps picking up the computers proxy
settings whenever i place it on the cradle, which is something I dont want.

FWIW I'm having the same problem. I have an inventory scanner that uploads
data to a website. I've been unable to get it to work for regular users as
a group policy causes Internet Explorer to use a proxy server. Any other
application will use the default gateway, but not ActiveSync! It's not a
big problem for me as they only need to do this once a month, so I just log
on as an Administrator to do it. This isn't real high on my list of
problems, but it would be nice to find a fix.
