- Active sync won't work on my laptop
- Posted by Big Al on July 19th, 2005
I am using Activesync 3.8 on my desktop with no problem. I sync an
IPAQ 4355.
I want to also sync to my laptop when I'm travelling. I installed
Activesync and went through the registering process.
The first thing is that I have to choose another name as it says the
one I use with my desktop is in use. Having done that, my device is
connected but Activesync is blank and hangs. Eventually it says "not
responding" and I have the option to end now, etc etc
If I restart my laptop, then without the PPC connected, the Active
sync window looks normal in that it has the PPC name at the top. But
when I connect the device it wants me to set up a partnership yet
again. At the end of that process, it hangs up. I've tried
everything and cannot get the laptop to work with Activesync.
Any help would really be appreciated!
Thanks,
Big Al

What happens if you try an install ActiveSync 4.0? What are the specs on
your laptop? Do they meet the minimum requirements of AS?

My laptop is an HP ZX5000 notebook running Windows XP Home just like
my HP desktop, 774y.
How do I get hold of ActiveSync 4.0?

Assuming Activesync 4.0 didn't exist (and it's obviously not in a
released form anyway), what other possibilities are there for the
problems I'm encountering ?
TIA

I have similar troubles with my laptop. In my case active sync does work at
least once with a newly created user. Thereafter active sync hangs.
I've now given up attempting automatic syncs. But I find that I can always
make active sync explorer work in guest mode by cancelling the partner
wizard. Then at least files can be copied manually.
Hope this helps.
