- ActiveSync 3.8 syncs all "unwanted"category items in Outlook Calendar
- Posted by Ram on March 21st, 2005
Hi,
I own a Dell Axim X30 624Mhz Pocket pc that is preloaded
wtih Windows Mobile 2003 SE. I've upgraded the MS
ActiveSync software from 3.7.1 to 3.8 and found a glitch
with it.
I've some calendar items in my PDA with different
categories, some I want to sync at work and some I do not
want to sync(not even be listed in Outlook at work). When
I specify the list of categories that can be synced in
the "ActiveSync" settings dialog, I uncheck all the
categories ("personal - homeonly" categories that I do not
want to sync at work, ActiveSync still sync those items in
outlook at work. This is so annoying because, I've very
personal appointments stored in my PDA, that keep
appearing in my Outlook inspite of the fact that I've
instructed ActiveSync NOT to sync those items.
Is anybody else facing this problem? If so, Can someone
please help me out to resolve mine?
Thanks for your help.
Regards,

Hi Ram,
If you do a category based selection, all appointments on your PPC that
don't fall under the category selected in ActiveSync will be moved to your
computer and deleted from the PPC. You will need to sync the same set of
categories on both computers if you want to avoid deletion of meetings.
This is the way Activesync is designed to work For more information and a
possible work around, see ---

Raj:
Thanks for your response.
So, isn't there any means in ActiveSync to prevent some
Categories being sent to a desktop by means of deselecting
them? If not, I think it beats the whole purpose of data
seperation because, why would anyone want to have an
identical sync category list between work and home,
honestly !!!???
I also understand that this is an odd place to ask for any
alternatives to ActiveSync, but this is one good reason
that is compelling me to ask for one! Can you please
recommend any other good ActiveSync replacement that can
have this functionality. I have heard good and bad things
about Intellisync (good being, it can support this dual
image, bad being, corrupting the database files and buggy).
Thanks for your help in advance,
- Ram

You have to individually uncheck each item you do not want synced at both
home and the ofice. For example, if you uncheck an item at home without
unchecking it at work, it wil sync at work
