- ActiveSync 4.5 fails with no option to create new partnership
- Posted by JasMR on June 2nd, 2008
Power outage (mains blackout for 4 hours) on the laptop (Win XP SP2 Outlook
2003 SP3) caused a full system reset on the USB cradle attached iPaq hx2790
which had been ActiveSyncing fine until then. Have reinstalled ActiveSync 4.5
on the PC and followed the instructions in various KB articles. Have tried
the ActiceSync Troubleshooter and it finds no problems.
I did at some stage delete the only Partnership which existed. And I have
checked to see if there is a Repl.dat file - none on the system at all.
I read Article 281598 - the problem is that the New Partnership Wizard does
not start automatically. There is no GuestOnly key anywhere in the registry.
On the PC (without the PPC attached) all the menu items are greyed out except
the Connection Settings and Close.
The connection does occur when PPC attached to USB cradle but only as Guest
- I can browse the mobile file system from the PC but Syncing doesn't work
and gives the "Synchronization cannot be completed successfully." message.
Tried changing the Device name on the iPaq - didn't seem to help.
Please help
James

I have fixed this by doing a complete reset of the iPaq (from memory it's
something like hold down the task key and calendar key together and push the
stylus into the reset hole at the bottom) check on the HP web site (I don't
have the url to hand).
EXTREME CAUTION .... this will erase all data on the main storage of the
device including the address book and any other documents spreadsheets etc.
It doesn't touch data on an SD or Flash memory card that might be installed
in the iPaq at the time.
Once I did this it seemed to connect satisfactorily and then synchronise ok.
I then upgraded to the latest firmware and updates for this model from the
HP website. All seems to be working at the moment although sometimes it
connects but doesn't synchronise - I just hit the reset and it works again (I
wonder how one would get on if there was no reset button on the iPaq :-)??)

Thanks, I worked with tech support and they believe it a bad phone (it'a a
moto Q9a). Their going to send me a new one and we'll see how it goes. The
reset on the phone did not help me. Glad you were able to resolve your
issue. Thanks!
