Activesync disconnects network temporarily
Posted by muaddib32 on April 9th, 2008

When I plug my iPaq into my XP desktop using a USB cable, it seems to
temporarily disconnect my network connection. Long enough to lose all my
connections to the server shares. I have to synchronize before I can access
anything on the server.

How do I prevent this from happening?

There's another thread going on right now on this general topic (see PC's
Network connection stops working when connecting via ActiveSync + USB?).
Tell us about your desktop PC, how it is connected to the network (Ethernet,
WiFi, what?), and whether the loss of connectivity is temporary or if it
only comes back when you disconnect the mobile device.

Thanks Paul. I connect to the network via an ethernet cable. I do not need
to disconnect the ipaq, but I do need to synchronize offline files before I
can access any network share.

Wow! I have no idea and have never heard of that. With the device
disconnected from the USB port, open ActiveSync (by double-clicking on the
circle icon in the system tray on the PC). Choose File | Connection
settings. Tell us what is set.
