ActiveSync Failure w/ Treo 700wx
Posted by VBE on May 5th, 2007

Treo 700wx (Sprint) ActiveSync 4.2 (Build 4875)
Use: Trying to syn my Outlook 2003 files (contacts, calendar) to my new
(replacement) Treo - Windows XP, SP2 - single user - no corporate server
Problem: Using RNDIS USB connection, I get connected and the AS icon begins
its little twirl. After a while, the AS icon on my phone starts twirling
also. Then after many (approx 20-30) min, I get this message:

0x80072ee4 The server could not be reached. This can be caused by temporary
network conditions. Exchange Server reports an internal error. Typically,
this condition is temporary. Try to synchronize again later.

Then the cycle repeats itself. But it never ends and when the details are
viewed, no entries are being transfered - the status bars never appear.
When I try to stop, it will not stop - I have to unplug the phone/USB cable.
I can access the AS program on the phone, tell it to stop and the icon keeps
twirling.

This is the 2nd phone in a row with this problem. The phone that was working
with AS lost its voice - you could hear an incoming call but they couldn't
hear you. The 1st replacement would never start AS and this one works as
described above. The Sprint tech support folks tell me that it must be my
computer - which hasn't been changed except for mutilple removal / installs
of the AS program as directed by tech support.

As of right now I have stopped AS on my computer (at least the icon is
stationary) and my phone has not responded to my Stop command. The only way
it to do a soft reset.

Suggestions / solutions anyone? (I have also tried my T42's IR connection -
same as above - exactly except no cable involved & I have made the registry
change of DnsCacheEnabled = 0)

Problem resolved - an update to my antivirus software - BitDefender Version
10 was the culprit - they have posted a patch - go to :
www.bitdefender.com/KB340
(this was identified by x on 5/3 - thanks). I updated AS to Ver 4.5 and it
still works.
