- ActiveSync wipes out data in version 4.X
- Posted by AC on April 29th, 2008
How can you have version 4.x (4.5) of a product and it WIPES OUT ALL THE
DATA that should be synching ?!?!?!?!? There should be an automatic backup
of the data before doing something so stupid or better yet; just don't do
it!
Seriously. You should be ashamed you worked on this pile of crap.

What circumstances caused the data deletion? Activesync has never deleted
data from my devices without asking me first.
If you're looking for help, we'll need more information. If you're just
looking to rant, sorry I interrupted...
Who, exactly, are you talking to? This is a public users forum. AFAIK,
none of "us" worked on Activesync or any other Microsoft product.

Hi,
Are you referring to the data on the device? Well if there was data on the
device and you chose to replace it from the PC then ActiveSync will delete
all the data on the device.

hmmmm. chose? You can either have your head blown off or be suffocated.
Is that a choice? The "choice" was 'do you want to synch and lose all your
data; yes/no'. Not really a choice other than by technicality. I don't
know if the person did choose it on purpose, I was told they did not ! The
"product" has been around long enough to have a better choice. Can it
figure out the diffs and show them to me? That would be good and it's not a
feature that is unheard of or too difficult. See MS VSS which has been
around for ages too.

Oh, so this didn't happen to you, then, it's a hand-me-down story?
No wonder why you ducked the "what did the PC ask" question... You weren't
there!

phone when they need it. I have one too but I backup and then let it do its
stupidity (hard sync from PC) and overwrite it with my backed up data.
