Can't set ActiveSync to use Work connection

I have an HTC touch using WM6. In the ActiveSync advanced options, I am able
to specify the connection I want to use. However the only option available
to me is "internet" (it's the only entry in a drop down box). I have a
wireless LAN connection set up to connect to my "work" network, and I'd like
to get ActiveSync to use it. How can I tell ActiveSync to use my "work"
network, rather than "internet".

Hi,
Are you referring to ActiveSync on the PC or on the Touch? Also, if it's on
the device, did you set the LAN setting to Work?

It's ActiveSync on the HTC Touch - and I'm connecting directly to the
Exchange Server. I've got a Wireless LAN connection configured (and working)
to connect to my Work network, I want to tell ActiveSync to use it. However,

What it does is, if the device has multiple (GPRS) APN's (Access Point Name
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Access_Point_Name), it determines which one
ActiveSync on the device would use.



So the scenario is that the WIFI connects to "WORK" and the Exchange Front
End also lies in the work's internal network. I'm assuming that the Exchange
Front End has a fully qualified domain name (or more importantly a dot '.'
somewhere in the name). When the device sees a dot in the server name, it
will ask Connection Manager for an internet connection. Most WORK networks
have proxies which will transverse the WORK network to the internet. My
recommendation it to have a HTTP proxy, it would make it easer.



To work around having the proxy, you would have to create an exception to
the above DOT rule.

Start->Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Exceptions. You can
add the server there IE http://my.server. The issue is you may have to add
this exception for when your connected to work and remove it when your not
(if your exchange server is on the internet)
