Can't sync with existing partnership after battery gets low
Posted by Roy Wiprud on June 25th, 2004

Hi,

First time poster here, hope one of you can help. I've got an HP 1935 running Pocket PC 2002, ActiveSync v3.6. When my battery gets real low (or dead because I've forgotten to charge it), it loses the existing partnership and forces me to create a new one. Needless to say, this is a pain in the *ss, because I've got to reestablish and reinstall everything, including Media Player, Audible (which thinks it's a new device) and AvantGo.

Is there a way to reestablish the existing partnerships? I'm getting really tired of doing this, it's the fourth time now. I know, I know, if I keep it charged I won't have the problem, but I don't use it all the time and sometimes I forget.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Roy

Its just a Bad human error. We cant blame the machine or
the device for it.

There are utilities that can back up the whole machine to a memory card just
before the battery dies- the Asus 620 includes one- called SmartKeeper- even
if the machine is in standby or off. This is in addition to a manual backup
program. The 620BT even has built in memory to store the backup so you don't
need a memory card I think.

Last time this was posted this someone also gave a different make with such
a utility, and someone posted the name of a utility that would backup- check
the archives for the name- I didn't keep details because I got a machine
that includes this facility as standard. The thread was around February this
year. Or try a web search? If you are lucky someone will post the name of
it, but that thread was in microsoft.public.pocketpc not in this ng.

Sprint Backup will do that. The real solution as you know is just to keep
it charged. If you are not using it, as you say, stick it in the cradle. If
it is a matter of taking it with you each day, put it back in the cradle to
sleep at night. If you are really not using it, send it to me. No, just
kidding. If you are really not using it, you should be able to get by
several days without a charge. Maybe something is staying active, and
draining your battery. You might want to invest (money or just time to load)
in an application manager that makes it easy for you to ensure all the apps
are shut down. If nothing else, if you are not going to use it for a
considerable amount of time, soft reset it to shut down all the errant apps.
