How to configure direct-push with Windows Mobile 5.0 MSFP
Posted by Mike Herchel on May 3rd, 2006

I'm trying to configure my PPC 6700 to my MS Exchange server. I want to have
all items synced up between Exchange and my device (meaning that if I delete
or modify something on the device, Exchange needs to delete or modify the
item)

I have the device currently configured so that it will poll the server every
x minutes. This works great, except the emails take too long to get there,
and the info is not sync'd up with the server.

When I attempt to configure direct push (I've followed a couple different
tutorials, including http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4899.html) , the device
prompts me for my SMS email address (so it can SMS the phone and trigger a
sync). This is not what I want, however.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on how exactly to set up direct push? I
know I have Exchange configured properly (enabled, and upgraded to SP2). I
have the proper ports forwarded through the firewall (TCP443), and a root
certificate from a trusted authority (Thawte).

Thanks!

Hi,
Do you have Exchange 2003 SP2 installed? Do you have PPC 6700 with AKU2
installed?

I do have SP2 installed, and mobile messaging enabled. I believe that I have
AKU2 installed (Alltel tells me so), but I'm not 100% sure. How can I tell
for sure?

Thanks,

If the device is asking for an SMS address, then it is likely that the
device does not have AKU2, as SMS notification was the earlier way of doing
it.

What Windows Mobile software version do you have running (Settings About)?

Check the internal version number of the OS in the About dialog. If the
update is installed the version number should be 5.1.someting in stead of
5.0.something.
