- Installed device BEFORE ActiveSync!!
- Posted by David Fields via PocketPCJunkies.com on January 2nd, 2005
In my foolish excitement to get my iPAQ up and running, I quickly connected the cradle to my PC and fired it up. I allowed the PC recognized the PDA as a Mobile Device before I installed ActiveSync. Then I read the warnings that were everywhere on the packaging, telling me to install ActiveSync FIRST. OOPS!
Now my PC has established a spot for Mobile Device under My Computer, but ActiveSync cannot recognize a connection.
How do I reverse this error?

Hi,
Plug in the Pocket PC, open the Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control
Panel - System - Hardware). Then find the unknown usb device or the Pocket
PC and delete it. Take the Pocket PC out of the cradle, reboot and
reinstall ActiveSync. Then try and sync.

I am afraid that didnt work. HP support told me I was on the right track but missing a couple of additional steps. Of course, due to a warranty snafu, they were not able to tell me the steps.
I deleted the unknown devices as you suggested, but the computer still recognizes a Mobile Device under My Computer. I reinstalled AS, but still there is no recognition of my PDA.

Hi,
You can try the steps listed at http://www.cewindows.net/wce/30/usbfix.htm
This fixed a similar problem with older iPAQs.
