Internet Pass Through

Does anyone know what determines if "Connection" is set to "The Internet" or
"Work" on the Rules tab of ActiveSync options when ActiveSync is installed?

I have experienced 3 customers calling up because they couldn't connect to
the internet from their cradled Pocket PC and their Pass Through Connection
was set to "Work" and the problem was resolved when we changed it to "The
Internet". I don't think any of these people changed the setting to "Work",
so I'm guessing it ended up that way on it's own somehow.

Have a look at the Pocket PC-Help-System. It describes the differences
between "Internet" and "Work".

Are you talking about Help on the Pocket PC? I looked at that and couldn't
find an answer to my question. I'd still like to know why Work is sometimes
selected on the PC ActiveSync settings for Pass Through.

Also, why does the Pocket PC need separate "Work" and "Internet"
connections? My PC doesn't have these and it can connect to a server here
at work and also internet servers.

This is my experience...

Firstly, the setup on the PPC must match to the setup of ActiveSync on the
PC.
For instance, in ActiveSync (PC), in Options -> Rules.. You can specify "To
use PassThru, this computer must connect to" Work or Internet.

If you select Internet here, your PPC should also specify Internet
(Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Network), and
vise versa

Work and Internet is making no difference unless you need the extra security
of a VPN connection which allow you to get thru your company's firewall into
the internal network.
