A friend of mine, who is not very computer-saavy, recently got a used
Dell Axim X5, and I'm trying to provide some assistance.
If I understand correctly, the contact and appointment information
can be synchronized between the home computer and the Axim
by means of the ActiveSync software. Is this correct?

And that this works only in conjunction with Microsoft Outlook, which
is assumed to be installed on the home computer. Correct?

My most immportant question is this ...

If I don't need to use the Axim for contacts or appointments but
rather only as a Pocket PC (e.g., for running Word and displaying .pdf
files on Acrobat), then I would only need to be able to
upload/download data files between the home computer and the Axim.
Can I do this *without* installing Microsoft Outlook?
