- replace desktop info with pocketpc info?
- Posted by TD Giorgio on August 20th, 2004
My Tosh e755 crashed the other day, requiring a hard reboot. I restored
from a backup (ActiveSync) and then resynced with my desktop to get the info
since the backup. At that time, AS IDed all the appts/contacts/etc. as
never synced and offered three choices (1) replace the pocketpc info with
the desktop info (2) merge the pocketpc and desktop (3) do nothing. I chose
(1) since it was the most current and I feared multiple entries from errors
in the 'merge' approach. So far, so good.
Now I'm trying to sync the pocketpc with my laptop. Again, the same three
choices - but this time the laptop data is not the most current - the
pocketpc hold the most current data. What I need is (4) replace the laptop
data with the pocketpc data. Is there a way to force this, or another
software tool to enable this direction of transfer? Other wise, I am
subject to the 'merge' approach - and in my experience many past
appts/contacts/etc. are created in duplicate and must be removed manually
(the find duplicate doesn't find them, presumably because AS didn't think
they were duplicates from the start...
Any advice?
Thanks...Todd

Hello Todd,
The 4th option you are looking for is not available in ActiveSync. The
Combine option is the closest you can get. A work around would be to move
all your content in Outlook (laptop) to a seperate folder and leave the
default folders (Contacts, Calendar, etc...) empty. When you establish the
partnership, when you select Combine, all the data on your PPC will reflect
into your desktop. If this is not a suitable option, then you could
consider using the Combine feature and if duplicates are created remove it
using a third party tool. For more information visit ---

The other alternative you can check out is Intellisync from Pumatech. Since
this software has features where you can specify one-way direction for
synchronization ---
