- Switching Outlook Profiles doesnt work anymore
- Posted by Is on April 9th, 2006
My outlook program was set that you had to choose a profile to be used upon
opening. I use two different outlook profiles. I used to be able to close
out outlook and switch back and forth. I have since purchased a sprint
ppc-6700 device running windows mobile 5.0 and its using activesync 4.1. I
am not unable to switch between my two outlook profiles. It seems that the
activesync is making outlook stay open. If I go into task manager and close
out outlook the active sync ends up with an exclamation mark on it and it
wont work again. How can I fix these problems? I really need to be able to
two the the two outlook profiles on the machine and run the device properly
as well.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you disconnecting the device before attempting to switch profiles?
ActiveSync will keep Outlook active as long as a device is connected.

Hi Rob and thanks for your prompt response.
I have since disconnected the usb cable that goes to the back of the sync
cradle since I would like to charge the phone without all the sync drama (it
wants to sync constantly and keeps outlook open). As long as the usb cable
is disconnected, Outlook is switching between the profiles without any
problems now. I am also able to switch the Outlook accounts as long as the
device is not in the cradle while the usb cable is connected.
So it seems that my only options are: 1. When device needs to charge unplug
the usb cable from the cradle or 2. when the device doesnt need to be
charged leave the device out of the cradle.
Am I pretty much stuck with this work around in order to switch between the
outlook profiles?

You need to ensure nothing is using Outlook when switching profiles.
Therefore you need to make sure the device is not connected to the USB port.
One way:
- Plug the cradle into the power, but not the USB.
- Set-up ActiveSync using bluetooth.
- When you need to sync, use BlueTooth.
It doesn't do syncing automatically, but only when you request it (which if
you are switching profiles is what you will want to do).
