- Sync Center works once then doesnt recognise device

I have an HTC Smartphone running Windows Mobile 5 and my laptop runs Vista
Business. I tried installing ActiveSync but this is apparently not supported
in Vista and was told to get Sync Center. This is now installed and i linked
my Smartphone up first time. However, the next time I plug the phone in, the
laptop does not recognise it. Sometimes I can get it to recognise the device
but then it doesnt sync when I update Outlook etc. Is there a solution to
this ridiculous software application?
