two problems: can't delete a folder and problems sync'g favorites
Posted by Harold Topper on November 13th, 2004

Hi-

I have been sync'g with my laptop, desktop, (two partnerships) and my HP
iPaq for 3 years now and anytime I've had a problem, I've been able to
resolve it without having to reset the iPaq back to cold state...but now I
have 2 issues that I can't get resolved no matter what I try.

a) I have a folder under My Documents on my iPaq that I created called
Templates that I can't delete -- if I try from Windows Explorer or my laptop
or desktop it appears to delete but the next time I sync it reapers. If I
try to delete it from the File Explorer on my iPaq I get the following
message: "Can't remove folder "Templates": Access is denied. Make sure
the disk is not write protected and the file sis not currently in use."

Nothing is using the file.

b) I tried loading my favorites under Mobile Favorites and had them sync'g
fine. But then I had a problem with my desktop and now Active Sync hangs
when sync'g on Favorites only.

I have removed all the favorites from under Mobile Favorites but now Active
Sync goes through the sync but they all show up as unresolved. The only way
I can get past it is to unselect Favorites for sync'g but I'd like to get
back to sync'g it.

Any help on either or both issues would be greatly appreciated!

a) "My Documents\Templates" folder: I believe this is a special folder
that comes already created on your iPAQ. I wouldn't be surprised if
PPC/WM2003 isn't being "helpful" and re-creating it automatically for you.

b) Unresolved Mobile Favorites: Have you tried deleting the ActiveSync
partnership and creating a new one? When your iPAQ is NOT connected, go
into AS and you'll be able to delete it through the File menu. You
probably want to answer "No" when it asks if you want to delete the
folder on your PC containing the synchronized files. Next time you
cradle your iPAQ, AS will ask you if you want to create a new
partnership. When in doubt with ActiveSync, recreating the partnership
straightens out a lot of ills.
