unable to restore backup to PPC
Posted by SueV on August 24th, 2006

I let the battery go dead on my PPC and tried to restore everything using a
backup I had created. It seems to restore most of the information to my PPC,
including placing the correct Device Name on the PPC. There were a few items
that it could not restore, so I had it skip those items. However, whenever I
disconnect and re-connect the PPC to the computer I get the Partnership Setup
Wizard again.

I synchronize some items using Intellisync, and it is able to access the PPC
with no trouble. However, Activesync still doesn't recognize my PPC. Is there
anything else I can do?

Hi,
Are you able to connect as a guest and then restore the backup?

Yes I connected as guest and restored the backup. I then disconnected and
did the reset it asked me to do, and when I re-connected, it started the
Partnership wizard again.

Intellisync will connect to it, identifying it with the correct device id,
but Activesync will not.

Hi,
Try deleting the partnership on the PC. Don't forget to copy the backup to
another location to make sure you can restore again.

I deleted the partnership on the PC, but when I restored the backup, the same
thing happened as before. Some of the files were listed as not being able to
be restored. I was told to close all applications on the device and try
again. I did this to no avail, so again I selected skip all and continued.

After disconnecting the device, pressing the reset button, and
re-connecting, I again got the Partnership Setup wizard.

I am not able to tell anything from the list of files that it is not able to
restore. Would you be able to determine what is going wrong by looking at a
list of files it can't restore? Some of them are the Intellisync database
files - but I am able to get them updated by having Intellisync import all of
my information from Outlook, and then resetting it to sync instead of import.
However, I don't believe all of them are Intellisync. Unfortunately I'm not
familiar with the files Activesync uses.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,
Did you try a hard reset before the restore? Make sure you do not open any
applications on the device before restoring.

This time I did a hard reset before the restore. I did not generate any
error messages during the restore. But when I re-connected after the
soft-reset, I again got the partnership setup wizard. It appears everything
was restored correctly.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Sue

Hi,
It sounds like you are all set. Just setup the new partnership and then you
are ready.
