- USB Device installation failed
- Posted by The PHOENIXTN ICT Team on January 25th, 2005
Hi all,
Please, could anybody help me with this error while connecting a iPaq to a W2K box USB port?
I've had to reinstall the iPaq from the scratch (some problem related with exhausted batteries) and now I'm trying to connect it the desktop... Thanks indeed.
Here the message:
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The installation failed because of function driver was not specified for this device instance.
Cheers,
Ricardo

Hello Ricardo,
Try removing the the USB device entry from the device manager
and then reboot the computer.
1. Right-click My Computer and then select Properties.
2. Select the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
3. Select the entry for the device then click Remove.
4. Reboot the computer and then attempt to connect.

Hi Ricardo,
Have you tried to reinstall Activesync? If you are getting the same error
on an other computer, then chances are that either the cable is faulty or
there is some kind of corruption on your PPC. If reinstalling doesn't help,
backup your data onto a external card and proceed to perform a hard reset.
Next connect the device without restoring any information. If it syncs
alright, then you know the cable is not faulty.
Next delete the partnership in ActiveSync and restore the backup on the
device. Try syncing again.

Hi, Raj,
I'm afraid something is still wrong here. And it seems to me that it must be
related with the iPaq USB interface. Following the proposed steps, I obtain
a succeeded installation error, but after rebooting the box, a yellow mark
is on the iPaq entry in the Device Manager list. I've tried to connect this
same iPaq to other computers to no avail. Always the same error: the USB
device is not recognized.
I'm attaching three images to this message. Please, could you confirm these
thoughts?
Thanks indeed,
Ricardo

Thanks, Raj. I've tried that several times. It doesn't connect. It seems to me that the next step is to try with a different cable. I'll try to do that and let you know if it works. TX!
Best,
Ricardo

Me again,
It seems a new cable makes the difference! So, the cradle seems to be in trouble... funny (sic) thing...
Thanks indeed for your help!
Cheers,
Ricardo
