- Wifi activesync not working any more
- Posted by Daniel CLEMENT on February 1st, 2006
Hello,
I used to sync my PPC through a Wifi connection. It worked well, but it
doesn't any more. It's activesync 3.8 and WM2003.
Now I get an error: "Cannot communicate to the desktop PC...".
It's strange, because the other networking functions work well (LAN and WAN)
on the PPC. USB activesync is also OK.
I've tried to suppress and recreate the partnership, but no luck.
What can I try? TIA for any help,

Hi,
Try installing vxutil from www.cam.com and confirm you can ping the desktop
by name. If you can't then consider entering the desktop's IP as the wins
server for the Wi-Fi connection or use Pocket Hosts from www.zimac.de.

Thank you for your reply.
Pinging by name worked... but today, activesync via wifi also worked. It is
very erratic these days.
In case I need the other option: where do I have to enter the IP address? Is
it under "server's name" in activesync of the PC, or the PPC, or both?
TIA,

Hi,
It's under the connection for Wi-Fi on the Pocket PC - specifically the WINS
server.

Hi,
Wifi activesync does not work any more...
I tried putting the PC's IP address in the PPC under
start -> settings - > cennexions -> connexions -> advanced -> network
card -> network card -> Dell wlan driver -> name servers -> wins
It did not help, but I noticed something that looks strange. When I try to
"ping by name" from vxutil, it pings for an IP that has nothing to do with
my PC's.
Maybe the problem is there, but I don't know how to solve it.

Hi,
Try a soft reset and then try to sync.

Hi,
I was only able to reply now, because yesterday it worked, but today, no
more :-(
A soft reset did nothing.
I fear somthing has become corrupted, either in the PC or in the PPC
settings. Maybe I should reinstall activesync on the PC? Or hard-reset the
PPC? Rather tedious in both cases; I wonder which one is more likely to
help...

Hi,
Apparently Pocket Hosts was what I needed. With its help, I made my PC's
name point to the correct IP address.
It's has now been working for 2 consecutive days !
Thank you, Chris, for your support and patience.
