WiFi Sync... Just not working...
Posted by Arno Butter on July 8th, 2005

Hey all,

I am just stuck... My WiFi Ethernet sync just does not appear to work/ I
have Ethernet enabled. I have the Windows Firewall configured to share files
and allow ActiveSync... As far as I can tell, everything is set! I can
browse the net, and I have a partnership and all the good stuff. For some
reason, it just won't do the WiFi sync. I try to go to ActiveSync on the
PocketPC but just tells me 'Not Connected'. Any help would be appreciated!

We are talking about a HP iPAQ rx3115 unit.

Thnx!

What ActiveSync version are you using? ActiveSync 4.0 does not have this
feature anymore.

I am running ActiveSync 3.8. But let me tell you this:

I can sync WiFi style, but I was under the impression that it was 'live'? If
I made a change on my handheld it would automatically update my OUtlook live
and vise versa? Maybe this is not true?

PLease clarify so I am not trying to find a solution to something that does
not exist

THank you!

When you use remote ActiveSync (over Wi-Fi or any other connection) it will
synchronise when you tap the "Sync" buton on your Pocket PC. It will not
replicate any data until you tap that button. The connection is then
established and the synchronisation occurs. Then the connection is closed.

When I get to the setup point where I tell my ipaq to connect, my laptop
plays the "notify.wav" sound indicating that it detected the incoming signal
but Active Sync never gives any indication that is trying to do anything.
When I di the bluetooth setup on the laptop I can set up pairing. I enter a
key, then my ipaq requsts that I also enter the key (again - there IS
communication happening). I just can't get active sync to work.
AAARRRGGGHHH.

I am a F*******ING computer professional. How does Microsoft expect the
typical user to set up this crap.

My apologies for the previous rant. It was a very bad day with little sleep
the night before.

But it's still crap.

Make sure you haven't mapped a drive to the Activesync PC using resco
file explorer, that causes WiFi syncing to fail.
