- Windows CE Device and Pocket Access
- Posted by Jason Gyetko on April 21st, 2005
When I configure my CE device in ActiveSync, it says Pocket Access - Not
Installed, and I cannot select the checkbox. Is there a way to get this
working? I found a program called InTheHand, but would rather do it
directly through ActiveSync. Thanks.

Hi Jason,
Pocket Access does not come with any of the Pocket PC's. There were
available on the Handheld platform. The option in ActiveSync allows you to
convert the mdb files into cdb files but you still need a database program
on PPC to view its contents.
With respect to the problem:
* Which Windows CE device do you have?
* Did you try reinstalling ActiveSync?

I have a Symbol 8800, PSC Falcon, & LXE (all CE 4.2). My eVB program reads
from a .cdb file. I normally use ActiveSync to sync my PocketAccess
databases on PPC2002 or Mobile2003, but that doesn't appear to be an option
with the CE devices. I've installed ActiveSync on a few PC's and have the
same problem with them as well.

I have a way to read the database on the CE Device, I just need to know how
to covert the mdb to a cdb then keep it sync'd. Actually, the syncing
process isn't even that important as long as I can copy the mdb to my device
that's all I really need, I can just do a full copy every time instead of a
sync. If I just try to copy & paste the mdb to the CE device I get the
following error:
Wednesday, April 27, 2005 9:39:23 AM, User: xxxxxx, synchronization started.
Database: C:\xxx.mdb
option: 1 - Overwrite existing tables
option: 1 - Keep this database synchronized
The remote procedure call failed.

I installed ADOCE 3.0 on the CE device and now I am able to sync Pocket
Access. I had ADOCE 3.1 installed on the CE device and it wasn't working.
Does anyone know if the Pocket Access sync option should be available with
3.1. Maybe I'm just missing a file or something. I'm using InTheHand to
connect to the .cdb file. Appears to be working for me now. Thanks.
