2 MOTOROLA SB 5100s ?
Posted by ECLiPSE 2002 on October 27th, 2003

I am planning to purchase a Motorola SB5100 cable modem and am
confused by the online store offerings. Several list two differnet
SB1500s
(a) one with a manufacurer's P/N 50120900100 called the DOCSIS 2.0
with a max. transfer rate of 28 MBps
(b) the other is called SB1500 with no P/N but a higher sale price at
all stores and a max. 38 MBps transfer rate. When I visit the Motorola
web site they only list one SB1500 and that is (a) above.

Cannot get Motorola to respond to an email query on this issue.

I currently have a Comcast SB 1500 rental unit with a manufacturer's
P/N of 50088700100 and I don't know into which of the two above
categories it falls.

Anyone out there have any ideas on why online stores sell two
different SB1500 and Motorola lists only one at its products web site
and online store?

Thanks for any assistance

Watch your typing - it's an SB5100 not SB1500.

Motorola lists it for $89 at their web store with rates of :

# Upstream (your computer to the Internet) provides data transfers up to
30 Mbps(09) using 8/16/32/64/128(10)QAM/QPSK RF
# Downstream receives data up to 38 Mbps using 64/256 QAM RF

Part #50120900100

$50 and up depending on where you go.

You can get one on eBay for $40-50 plus shipping.

Thanks for the response and input $Bill -
I've visited the online stores and found the SB5100 P/N 50120900100
and plan to purchase it - however, the question still arises - what is
the other SB5100 that several online stores are selling in addition to
the one you describe?

It has a faster rate of transfer, but seems to be similiar in all
other respects. The Motorola online store only lists the 50120900100?

You'll need to supply a link if you expect anyone to answer that one.
Could be old specifications or maybe there's a second version out.

(a) is DOCSIS
(b) is probably SB5100E (EuroDOCSIS)

Your network is DOCSIS or EuroDOCSIS ?

Notice that you'd never get 28Mbps. Maximum speed we achieved was about
22-25Mbps DOWNLOAD speed
