- Anyone know of another dialup ISP running on Road Runner?

Charleston Chat (cchat.com) in Summerville, SC, is a little dialup ISP
that nearly went belly up a couple of months ago. A friend of mine is
a customer and wanted me to figure out why his little ham radio
internet comm program doesn't work any more.
Today I stopped by his house and booted it up. A tracert to my IP
shows their internal LAN is suspiciously on 192.168.0.23 for his
dialup port to 192.168.0.1, something they called "Office". From
there, the trace goes to ROAD RUNNER!, Summerville's cable ISP.
Do you think RR knows they're doing this?.....
A call to cchat got a cagey reply that no ports were blocked from the
second guy I spoke with who said their router is a Cisco. Sure a
whole different path since they moved.....and looked like an ISP
paying for a T1 on dialup!

Maybe we could get the power grid fixed if every politician
regulating the power companies wasn't on their payrolls.

then it followed the rr path out of South Carolina.
www.cchat.com goes a whole different way through alter.net from what I
was tracing from INSIDE their dialup customer's house.....real queer.
He has a ham radio chat program that uses ports 5198, 5199 and 5200.
The software was listening to the ports on it...no firewall, no
nothing to interfere. But on 8/8/03, the program stopped completing
calls. He can call OUT to other stations but those stations' data
does not come back IN and don't show up on Win98SE's little dialer
icon in the tray....the data in has been blocked and I was trying to
figure out where...
Craziest thing I'd seen on dialup. cchat went dark for a while and we
thought they'd gone belly up right after he paid for another year.
But, then it resurfaced with a new phone number and this crazy rr.com
path in Summerville, SC, outside of N Charleston where it used to
be....
