- cable internet and satellite tv service
- Posted by Jason Gallas on June 23rd, 2004
Are there any obstacles to setting up both cable internet and satellite tv
service at the same house? I have a brand new home that is pre-wired for
cable tv, but I was told that satellite needed to use the cable tv box.
Would this in any way interfere with my cable modem service?

They are connected to each other, so how would one affect the other ?

Cable internet should not use the cable tv box. Should be interference.

That should have been "aren't" - as long as the two systems *aren't*
connected to each other, you should be fine.
You'll need separate wiring for your cable modem or satellite depending
on which you want to use on your existing wiring. You may be able to
isolate some of your wiring depending on how it's wired and use it for
your modem,

We have Comcast cable modem Internet service and Dish Network DBS satellite
TV service. The only obstacle is you have to be willing to drill another
hole through the exterior wall. Use your existing wiring for Dish or
DirecTV satellite service, as it's likely that the wall outlets will be
close to where you need them. Have a new line run for cable modem
ervice. -Dave
