Cable modem/wireless broadband router in one box?
Posted by Al puzzuoli on July 5th, 2004

Just wondering whether such a thing exists?
I have a friend who has a similar product, an integrated DSL modem and
wireless router. I think it is made by netgear; However, if something
like it exists for cable modems, I have yet to find it.

Thanks for any info.

Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions on this one so far.
Right now, the linksys looks like it might be the best solution as none
of the others appear to offer G. Currently, I have a surfboard issued
by Comcast. What's involved in getting Comcast to swap it out? Are
they usually cooperative about that sort of thing and what kind of cost
is involved?

Thanks,

Comcast Home Networking - CHN - is being quietly released in certain
areas. Has to do with the 4mb downstream capability. Hate to say it,
"call customer service".

I've seen the modem/gateway at retail places like Fry's or Newegg,
it's on the approved list at
http://www.comcast.com/Support/Corp1...tail_2427.html

Last caveats
-0- If you buy the modem/gateway at retail and install it on a normal
account, there will be no 'CHN speed increase'.

-0- If you rent a WCG200 modem/gateway from Comcast, it is only going
to provide 5 LAN IP addresses. It's in the ROM.

Affirm. Did that, in the words of BC, "Just because I could".

Some other systems got similar product from NetGear - No such luck in
my area.

What we also stock is a modem/router from SMC. It has a PCMCIA slot,
but is not equipped with anything. This one is directed toward small
business, with a whole ton of support behind the service.
