Cable Splitter and Signal Amplifier
Posted by George C. Berger on April 24th, 2004

I'm thinking of transferring from dial-up to Comcast Cable. At present,
I have an excellent VHF-UHF signal amplifier in the line before a
splitter that feeds two TV outlets (used), and a third (not used), that
is wired into our computer room. I've needed the amplifier due to the
long runs of coax in our home from the cable entry point in the attic
(150' from the cable toadstool) to the TVs located 40'-60' downstream
from the attic entry.

Will the conection to Comcast for broadband have to be made prior to the
amplifier, or after the amplifier /splitter to the "computer" coax run?
I still need the amp to ensure decent TV.

TIA, George

had the same problem. Comcast came out and put a amplifier and
works great now...Was not even charged for it. They installed it before
it went into the 8 way splitter

gberger@his.com says...
If you hook up BEFORE the amp, you will probably be OK if your incoming
signal is strong enough. Otherwise, consider replacing the amp with a
broadband-capable amp, which allows the return signal to go back to
Comcast.

With those lengths, you hopefully are using RG-6 or better cable.

Andrew -

I'll badger the Comcast techs to ensure a good signal. Unfortunately,.
everything was wired with RG-59 before I could object!

Thanks for the feedback
