Hi,
I am in Romania. My telephone company states it uses ETSI-FSK protocol
for Caller ID, which I understand is the protocol used in most of the
Europe. I have subscribed to the service. My modem's manual says I only have
to give the modem an AT#CID = 1 or 2 to enable receiving of Caller ID. I
tested with hyperterminal, gave that command, received OK, but all I get is
RING, RING when someone calls me.
Among the posts I've read here on the group, I saw one or two saying
"you'll never get a USR modem to receive caller ID in Europe". I also read
on ExceleTel's site (a provider of telephony ActiveX controls built on top
of TAPI) that " Some modems, like US Robotics cannot detect caller ID in
voice mode. The FSK data is coming in at a different rate (7200Hz) than the
modem was designed to listen to (8000Hz)" . The URL is
http://www.exceletel.com/support/har...dems/index.htm
I didn't understand whether they're refering to all protocols or just the
some of them. From what they say, one would be inclined to think that the
USR modems *can* detect some kind of caller ID, only not the voice mode
kind. What would that other kind be?
Is all this true? Or do they only recognize US Bellcore? Did anyone ever
get a USR to receive Caller ID in Europe? I would appreciate anybody sharing
some experience with this.
Thank you in advance,
Lucian
