CATV Com21 problem (may be in firmware)
Posted by Condor on July 24th, 2003

Hello,
I use lattest com21 firmware:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: Com21 DP1110 <<HW_REV: 06; VENDOR:
Com21; BOOTR: 9; SW_REV: 2.1.1.109.001; MODEL: DP1110>>
SNMPv2-MIB::sysObjectID.0 = OID:
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.1141.2.0.6.1.1.109.1
SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime.0 = Timeticks: (287455) 0:47:54.55
SNMPv2-MIB::sysContact.0 = STRING: COM21 Inc. (408) 953-9100
SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING: DP1110

and work great, but if my modem are restarted and my pc is up,
my modem load configuration from tftp and dhcp normal, and continue
functional normal. But after 10-20 minutes mu pc (with windows XP all
patches) lose link with my modem (linked with lan/lan cable) and this
problem continue. My XP network monitors are lined with red.
but modem is work. This problem are solved that every time when my modem
lose signal and restart i shutdown my pc, restart power off my modem,
after catv modem conected (download tftp configuration and from dhcp)
i turn on my pc. Problem are solved. In my xp i re-enabled network,
repair, reconect modem, lan cable but no efect.

Any body know where can be a problem? I not tryed this problem on my
openbsd but i think that problem is also exist.

Yup, that is the latest firmware.

What are the modem LED's doing at this time ? Is the modem still acquired
to the downstream ? (indicated by a solid third LED) Is there any activity
on the SND and RCV LED's ?

You are sending a mixed message here - is the failure on the LAN connection
in the PC, or has the modem failed ?

I think you are saying that restarting everything solves the problem. What
happens if you ONLY restart the PC ?? What happens if you only restart the
modem ?

There is no known issue similar to what you mention. Additional data is
needed: Do you connect via USB or Ethernet ? Is this a recent problem ?
What pattern do the LED's indicate ?

no lose link, no downstream problem.
I see in modem log via web.

Actuali, i dont know where is problem, i think that after i run my pc,
my NIC and my MODEM negoteited some info ... but this sounds crazy.
Modem work normal, but windows xp restart network conection, lined with
red network monitors, run normal, after 1-2 minute, problem again.

If i only restart my the problem still exist, need to power off my pc,
restart catv modem, after downloading information, run pc.

I connect via Ethernet, i not use USB because i dont have ideas of USB.
LED's indicate PWR, LAN, CRL is green, and SND, RCV is blink green -
operate normal.
