Charter Communications DHCP Issues - St. Louis, MO ?
Posted by dffjunior@yahoo.com on November 15th, 2005

Anyone know anything about Charter Communications? Seems they just did
alot of network upgrades in the St. Louis, MO area and are seeing an
interesting issue.

When I use USB from their modem, I get a DHCP IP address 192.168.100.x
temporarily, then a real IP address.

When I use Ethernet from their modem, I cannot get a DHCP address at
all.

When I unplug the coax from the modem, I get a DHCP address
192.168.100.x but, of course, no real IP address.

Anyone have any input?

Any time you change the NIC that is directly connected to the modem, you
must power cycle the modem (leave it unpowered for 15 seconds) to clear
the MAC address table and allow connection to a new directly connected
MAC address.
